Hi my question is not about a data center but I think it is similar. We have an office, about 4,000 square feet, and we need to backup our computers and phones. We have short power outtages about once every month or two. It isn't a big deal all the time, a lot of the computers are laptops. But there are some people who have desktops (no battery!), then there is our phone system. The phone system goes down every time we have a power problem. We have 5 phone lines, so there could be a couple people on the phone when they go down, which is obviously bad for business. So how can we bring power to the computers, laptops, phones? If we could also backup the lighting

Well obviously a UPS will do the trick for you.
Your phone system probably has a small backup battery inside, so you should check that out, because when your power goes out, your phones should stay up.
The big question is do you want a single UPS to back up all of your office equipment, or do you go with small, individual UPSs power backups under each desk (basically 1 UPS for each worker/computer)?
The drawback of small individual UPS in this case is that you said you want to back up your lights, too. THAT would require a larger UPS wired for your whole building.
